About Deluge

Deluge is a simple tool to help you remember the dead and offer real prayers for them. It was born from a very personal story: after the founder's grandmother died, she left instructions in her will that no one presume she was already in heaven, so that people would keep praying for her. That conviction—that our loved ones may still be waiting for our prayers—is at the heart of this app.

Why the name “Deluge”?

A deluge is a flood—a sudden, overwhelming outpouring. The hope of this project is that the prayers offered here would be like a cool rain, a welcomed flood of grace poured out on souls in the purifying fires of purgatory. In a world that easily forgets the dead, Deluge is meant to help the Body of Christ remember them together and intercede for them with love.

Why pray for the dead?

The Catholic Church teaches that some who die "in God's grace and friendship, but still imperfectly purified" undergo a final purification, traditionally called purgatory, before entering the full joy of heaven (cf. Catechism of the Catholic Church 1030–1032). This purification is not the same as the punishment of the damned, but a merciful preparation for seeing God face to face.

From the earliest days, Christians have prayed for the dead, especially through the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and other devotions, asking that the Lord complete this purification and draw them into His presence. Our prayers cannot change God's mercy, but in that mercy He allows our intercession to truly help those who can no longer help themselves.

Not just for Catholics

You do not have to be Catholic for God to bring you to Himself in heaven. But in many Christian communities, it is uncommon to keep praying intentionally for the dead after the funeral. Deluge is meant to be a small vessel of mercy in the digital age—especially for those whose communities may not have a strong habit of praying for the departed.

Whether you are Catholic, exploring the faith, or simply moved to pray for someone you love, you are welcome here.

How Deluge works

  • Choose to pray for someone and the app will assign you a person to remember before God.
  • Offer a concrete prayer or devotion—an Our Father, a Hail Mary, a decade of the Rosary, a Mass intention, or another prayer.
  • Deluge quietly tracks these prayers so you can see, over time, the "deluge" of mercy being poured out for the departed.

The goal is not to gamify holiness, but to make it easier to remember real people, offer real prayers, and take encouragement in the unseen but very real work God is doing through your fidelity.

A note of faith and trust

Ultimately, every soul is held in the hands of a just and merciful God. Deluge does not claim to measure grace or guarantee outcomes. It simply gives you a concrete way to respond in love—to remember the forgotten, to honor the dead, and to entrust them to the Heart of Jesus through prayer.
